A Cozy Winter Celebration for a Live Wedding Painting

Earlier this month, I had the joy of live painting a winter wedding at The Sycamore at Mallow Run - a venue I’ve come to know and love for its warmth, versatility, and hospitality. This celebration took place on a snowy January day, the kind where the cold outside makes the glow indoors feel even more meaningful.

For this wedding, the couple chose to say their vows indoors, gathered in front of the venue’s beautiful fireplace. It was the perfect setting for a winter ceremony - intimate, cozy, and full of presence. When we talked through their vision for the painting, they knew exactly what they wanted to remember: a dip kiss in front of the fireplace, the bride's bouquet in hand, and the soft glow of Edison lights overhead.

These details became the heart of the painting.

I arrived at the venue around 12:30 PM to begin setting up and painting the foundation. My 16"x20" canvas was started before guests arrived to allow the painting to begin taking shape.

One of my favorite parts of live wedding painting is inviting guests into the process, and this night was especially memorable. I welcomed the couple’s friends and family to add a few brushstrokes of their own. By the end of the evening, more than 20 guests had helped bring the painting to life with a countless number stopping by multiple times to watch it come to life. Nearly everyone passed by my easel at some point throughout the night, turning the painting into both a keepsake and a form of live entertainment.

There’s something special about creating a full painting in the span of a single wedding day. Brushstroke by brushstroke, the scene came together as the celebration unfolded.

By the end of the night, I was able to place the finished painting into the couple’s hands before they left the venue. It’s always meaningful to watch couples see their day reflected back to them in real time - still fresh, still glowing, still alive with movement and memory.

This wasn’t my first time creating a live wedding painting at The Sycamore at Mallow Run. Earlier in 2025, I had the pleasure of painting their vineyard for another couple, so getting to capture an indoor winter scene this time felt like a full-circle moment.

The venue offers both indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, making it a beautiful option year-round, especially for Indiana winters when flexibility matters. Beyond the setting itself, the staff at The Sycamore at Mallow Run are consistently kind, helpful, and supportive, which makes a world of difference for couples and vendors alike.

Weddings like this are a reminder of the shared experience live paintings provide, shaped by the people who gathered to celebrate, and a tangible way to carry the feeling of the day forward. If you’re dreaming of a wedding day where art becomes part of the celebration - and a keepsake created in the moment - I’d love to help bring that vision to life.
